My year is off to a hectic start. If you’ve been paying attention, you know I missed the January newsletter. And now it’s February and if I don’t hurry up and write, that will be over too! We’ve brought in the sheep and lambing is underway. Usually the sheep begin lambing in a gradual fashion around first of February, however, this year they are off to such a quick start, we’ve already put on both swing and graveyard shifts for the lambing crew. That’s a good thing, since I’m away and it puts a lot of pressure on my husband Dan to cover the evenings and night checks. I was out with a camera a couple days before I left on this trip, and took some photos, just to capture how big the ewes are. They were walking carefully, as if afraid of falling down, since getting up is hard in their pregnant condition!
I’m on an exciting adventure — in New York! We decided to take our home textiles to a trade show, so here I am. Life here is pretty different than ranching! I had my first subway ride after visiting the offices of Vogue Knitting and Yarn Market News. And I’ve learned not to ride in a New York taxi unless it’s a yellow one. Ask me that one sometime. Speaking of Vogue Knitting, we are really looking forward to the upcoming Vogue Knitting LIVE! Destination Experience with workshop instruction by Designer Norah Gaughan, to be held June 5-8. For more information or to register, contact Doreen Connors at 212-937-2554 or email@example.com. This will be a fantastic workshop, and a great trip to the Oregon desert, with all the usual camaraderie and fun.
We had a wonderful letter recently from a knitter named Dorothy, who loves knitting with our wool yarns. She simply wrote to tell us she’s 100% sold on American farming. She eloquently expressed her appreciation for family farms and ranches who go the extra mile taking care of their animals. And we sure appreciate the support of people like Dorothy.
February will continue to be a busy month, with an Imperial Yarn Trunk Show event at Stash in Corvallis on Saturday, February 21st from 1-4 pm; and then I’ll be at Twisted in Portland for the Rose City Yarn Crawl on Friday, February 27th. If you are in either city, come by and say hello! I’d love to see you.
